We hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. We know this is a difficult time to be asked for campaign donations, but this moment has made clear that qualified leadership is critically important. Please stay informed and follow the most up-to-date recommendations from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, and your state public health department.

John,

Today is Cinco de Mayo (not Mexican Independence Day) an important holiday in Mexican culture!

DeKalb is home to so many cultures, languages, and backgrounds from every corner of the world, and our Hispanic population is one of the largest growing members of the community. In fact, the Atlanta Regional Commission estimates that by 2050 our Hispanic neighbors will make up 20% of county residents!

Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we need elected leaders who recognize and celebrate the many backgrounds our friends and neighbors have. We can build a county that welcomes all people and unites us behind a common goal. We can create an inclusive and prosperous county for all.

I led the City of Clarkston as Mayor for six years with compassion and inclusion, and as a county commissioner, I’ll do the same for DeKalb. Together, we can work to build bridges with all of our multicultural communities and across the county and unite us behind a common vision to move DeKalb forward.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

P.S. Under normal circumstances, I’d go to Plaza Fiesta here in DeKalb County tonight to celebrate with the thousands and thousands of Mexican American families who live on or near Buford Highway. But since physical distancing remains critically important right now, check out the graphic below for some suggestions from the Latino Community Fund of Georgia on how to celebrate from home.
