As Suicide Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to highlight an alarming trend: Gun suicides among kids are soaring.

We know gun suicides have risen dramatically over the last two decades. In 2022, nearly 27,000 Americans lost their lives to firearm suicide—the most ever recorded. But alarmingly, gun suicides among children are rising at the fastest rate of any age group.

Since 2008, gun suicides among preteens have increased by more than 8% each year. For those under 18, they’ve surged 40% from 2013 to 2022. These numbers should stop each and every one of us in our tracks.

Commonsense measures like minimum age laws are remarkably effective at preventing teens from accessing guns, saving an additional 462 lives per year.
