Join us for our upcoming Ballots Against Bias symposium as we work to combat anti-Muslim hate. Register now!
Dear John,
Our upcoming Ballots Against Bias Symposium is just around the corner! Join us on Saturday, October 12 at the Fowler Museum at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA as we delve into the root causes of Islamophobia and its devastating impact on American Muslim communities.
As part of the symposium, we are proud to feature the panel Towards a Secure Future: Reevaluating U.S. National Security Priorities.
For decades, Muslims have been the target of U.S. policies in the name of "national security." This panel will explore how these unjust practices have contributed to widespread anti-Muslim sentiment and discuss paths to reform that align national security priorities with justice for all Americans. This discussion is critical to shaping policies that protect our communities while truly safeguarding national security.
Featured Speakers: Josh Paul, who resigned from the State Department in October 2023 due to his opposition to the Biden Administration's rush of lethal military assistance to Israel, will bring his insights on U.S. defense diplomacy and security sector reform. With over 11 years of experience as Director in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and roles across the Department of Defense, Josh offers a unique perspective on the intersection of national security and human rights. He is currently a Non-Resident Fellow at Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) and a recipient of the 2023 Callaway Award for Civic Courage.
Samar S. Ali is a skilled mediator, a careful listener and a compassionate teacher. Pulling up a chair to tables around the world, she engages in some of the most entrenched conflicts of our time. In this pursuit, she is a research professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, the founding President and CEO of Millions of Conversations and co-chair of the Vanderbilt Project on Unity & American Democracy. This work places her right at the intersection of national security, human rights and economic development.
We look forward to seeing you in October. Let’s continue to stand united against hate while empowering our communities to create lasting change.
In Service,
Salam Al-Marayati
MPAC President
P.S. Lunch will also be served during our event. Stay tuned for more updates and details in the coming week.
