If this is Democrats' best defense... Well... "Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez dismissed calls to search Joe Biden’s archives for Tara Reade’s sexual-assault accusation, telling ABC’s Martha Raddatz that 'this is like the Hillary emails, because there was nothing there.'" [Read the full story from National Review.] The left seems to have coalesced on their talking points in response to the sexual assault allegations against Joe Biden ... and to us, they don't seem particularly effective.
Tom Perez, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was the highest-ranking party official to use them, as the National Review story above shows. He and others seem to focus on two key points as they discuss these allegations:
Neither argument seems compelling to us, based on the standards the left created for themselves.
In recent years, the left has replaced presumption of innocence (i.e. you're presumed innocent until proven guilty) and reasonable standards of evidence with overwhelming public, often partisan fury, most recently on display during now-Justice Kavanaugh's Senate confirmation hearing in 2018.
Though we still -- and always have! -- hold those standards, it's created a near-impossible trap for Democrats to escape as they try to defend Joe Biden. By the standards they set: at minimum, it's a cynical double standard; at maximum, a moral outrage.
The curious case of the prosecution of Michael Flynn. "The twists and turns in the prosecution of intelligence expert Michael Flynn have revealed a string of actions by known bad actors in the FBI and prompted President Donald Trump to float the idea of bringing his short-lived national security adviser back into the administration." [Read the full story from The Daily Signal.] The prosecution of Michael Flynn, formerly President Trump's National Security Advisor, has been a long and winding process.
New documents released last week led to a flurry of news coverage -- and a strong rebuke of the prosecution from some media outlets, including a sharp piece from National Review editors.
The Daily Signal has a clear, thorough explanation of what these new documents mean ... and how they fit into the long-running case. It's well worth your time to read it.
Good news from President Trump: "very confident" in coronavirus vaccine development. "President Donald Trump stated that he is 'very confident' the U.S. will discover a coronavirus vaccine in the next seven months, following news that his administration has organized a 'Manhattan Program-esque' project to fast-track development." [Read the full story from National Review.] President Trump and his Administration continue to act decisively and protect the American people in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last night, President Trump said he's "very confident" in the rapid development of a vaccine against coronavirus, thanks to the public-private partnership that the Trump Administration has created.
Of course, in vaccine development, rapid development means many months away -- and even that's no guarantee. But Americans can feel encouraged by this good news and by President Trump's continued leadership in this time of great uncertainty.
Democratic voters say they want Elizabeth Warren for VP. "Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) ranks as Democratic voters’ top choice for presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s vice presidential pick, a CBS News poll released Sunday found. " [Read the full story from The Hill.] Talk of Joe Biden's VP choice continues. As we shared with you, he's formed a committee to analyze the potential candidates and recommend the top picks to him by July 1. (That's a real commitment to the left's love of bureaucracy.)
A new poll shows that Elizabeth Warren may be Democratic voters' choice, though how that plays into the committee's decision is yet to be seen. Biden previously had pledged to choose a female VP.
And, on a final note: as always, we wish for the health and safety of you, your family, and your community at this uncertain time. Stay safe and see you on Wednesday!
