After beginning the year with expanding beer orders and stalling in March, the Beer Purchasers' Index (BPI) for April 2020 indicated a contracting beer market. Additionally, with a significant shift in consumer purchases taking place, and many on-premise retail outlets shut down, the reading for inventory at risk of going out of code or expiring in the next 30 days increased to an unprecedented mark of 80 in April 2020.
Michigan alcohol industry makes donations during COVID-19 pandemic
Michigan’s alcohol industry has been making charitable donations and beer distributors are no exception. Here are a few examples: Huron Distributors provided a 53-foot refrigerated trailer to a local public school to keep food refrigerated for their “Feed the Kids” program. Imperial Beverage donated 2,000 cases of water and juice to local hospitals and non-profits. Republic National Distributing Company donated 100 meals to the Detroit Police Department and over 400 meals to frontline health care workers.
