NW Natural told Oregonians it had a new source of clean energy: renewable natural gas. Industry documents obtained by ProPublica reveal how the company has, for years, perpetuated its core fossil fuel business while painting a picture of going green. Here are more findings from our investigation: - Soothing Message: NW Natural’s “Less We Can” campaign promoted renewable natural gas as: “Change for the better. Without changing a thing.”
-
Failure to Deliver: Seven years in, the company has not come close to meeting its climate goals with the alternative fuel.
- Core Business Preserved: The company’s actions ensured it faced few consequences while its sales of fossil natural kept going.
