You can read Joe Biden's response to the allegation against him for yourself. "Biden issued a lengthy statement on Medium on Friday morning denying the allegation by Tara Reade, who worked with then-Sen. Biden in the 1990s. Biden’s statement was posted before the presumptive Democratic nominee appeared on MSNBC to speak about the accusation, the 26th network media interview he has done since the allegation came to light and the 1st time he has been directly asked about it." [Read the full story from the Daily Wire.] A woman has alleged that Joe Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993 -- and now Joe Biden has responded directly for the first time.
He denied the claim, both in a written statement published online (you can read it here, with thanks to the Daily Wire for the link) and in a TV interview on MSNBC this morning.
Biden faced a surprisingly tough line of questioning on MSNBC, given that a friendlier response might be expected from the reliably liberal TV network. Biden's responses were mostly direct; but to us, they don't seem thorough enough to put this story to rest in the 2020 campaign. Instead, his personal response will likely fuel another round of media coverage.
As we said on Wednesday, we won't speculate on the truth of the allegation, and we will emphasize that it is an allegation. Biden has denied it, and the allegation to the contrary is not a proven fact. But we will continue to share relevant updates as the story unfolds.
And the longer the University of Delaware records are kept sealed, the more curious people will get. "Biden continued to claim the records in Delaware contain nothing related to Reade, only sensitive information related to his work as a senator, which Biden says could be taken out of context over the course of the presidential campaign. When contacted by a Business Insider reporter, the National Archives said they do not hold Biden’s Senate office records as he claims." [Read the full story from The Federalist.] In his MSNBC interview this morning, Joe Biden said he won't authorize the release of his Senate records held at the University of Delaware ... or even allow for a single search of those records for his accuser's name. Biden's accuser has alleged that she submitted a written report that should be part of those records.
As we shared with you earlier this week, the University of Delaware -- which is the university of Joe Biden's home state -- has had his Senate records since 2011. The original plan was for them to be released by December 31, 2019 or when Biden retired from public office.
But last spring, that deadline was changed to be no sooner than December 31 and no later than two years after Biden "retires from public life." Which, if he wins the presidential election, could be many years in the future.
The longer this story persists, the more questions -- and curiosity! -- will likely increase.
Before every state embraces mail-in voting... "When a federal elections commission started asking questions, not one person had any explanation for the 28.3 million mail-in ballots that have gone missing since 2012. As far as they’re concerned, 1 in 5 absentee votes just vanished." [Read the full story from The Daily Signal.] It's possible -- though we can't yet speculate how likely -- that many states will turn to mail-in voting this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. We'll defer to medical experts on when and if that measure is necessary for the health and well-being of the American people.
But there are serious questions about potential vote integrity issues with mail-in voting, as this piece from The Daily Signal details.
It's no surprise: President Trump's approval rating reaches an "all-time high." "President Trump’s approval rating hit an all-time high in a Gallup survey released on Friday, with 49 percent of respondents approving of his performance versus 47 percent disapproving." [Read the full story from the National Review.] Americans appreciate the leadership and decision-making of President Trump and his Administration during these challenging times. So it's no surprise that President Trump's approval rating has reached a new record, with the thanks of the American people.
And, on a final note: as always, we wish for the health and safety of you, your family, and your community at this uncertain time. Stay safe, enjoy your weekend, and we'll see you on Monday!
