Remember, we have only one online fund drive each year. This is the only time we ask you to contribute for the many benefits you receive daily on this website: daily, even hourly, news updates, investigative reports, background analyses, columns and inspirational writing.
We are passing through a dark moment. A microscopic virus threatens our communities. The coronavirus has abruptly changed our lives, brought the entire planet to a halt. Unprecedented in our lifetimes. We can feel cut off. It is easy to feel down, alone. However, we are not alone! We are in this together. Facing a common threat, we come to deeper awareness of what binds us together. Just as roots intertwine beneath the soil, we draw strength from each other. We will emerge stronger for going through this together. And NCR will be a nourishing light. That's a promise.
At its core, NCR is about community. We build community by shining light on its members, by holding those in authority accountable and by inviting the marginalized to the table. We build community by imagining the church we should become and then shining light on the road ahead. NCR is all about building hope. It is nurturing us all through the darkness.
So many people are hurting now; there is much need. I know this. All of us are getting calls for help from many directions. However, it would be irresponsible were I to ignore our own special needs at this time. As with other publications, our ad revenues have fallen. There is little evidence these needed revenues will come back soon. So, yes, we do have needs, too. Your assistance at this time would be especially appreciated.
Some months back when we first drew up our budget for this year, we set our Spring Fund Drive goal at $150,000. It is an ambitious, but doable figure. I remain confident we can achieve this goal. Why? Because NCR readers are both caring and responsive. NCR readers believe in the journalism we bring to you.
So, yes, we know you care. We also know we are in this together. During this current crisis and for the long haul. We are pilgrims on a common journey. Inadequate, but determined, we remain faithful, and hopeful. Walking together, you need us as we need you.
So, on this first day of this weeklong fund drive, please help us help you. I believe in you and feel the way I do each time I plant a seed in my garden: hopeful. A funding success at this time will be a landmark achievement. So, please, do your part. Donate now.
