Hey, a bit of a different email today. We haven't talked politics in a while but want to reach out about two things.

First, we want to make an important distinction about this Senate race. Then, we want to ask you to pitch in $3 to recommit to our fight.

This is a long email, but we'd be grateful if you took a few moments to read.

________________________________________________

Over the past month, the Senate race in Massachusetts has changed. Our world has been turned upside down. Our priorities and perspectives have shifted. And the question of leadership has taken on new meaning and new urgency.

We have seen leaders fall horribly short - our President chief among them. But we've also seen leaders rise to the challenge.

And without a doubt, Joe has met this moment. He has shown up for the communities and families that have gone underserved and under-protected for generations. He has shown up for those most in need. He has shown up for all of us.

Every moment of his has been filled making phone calls, tracking down PPE for our frontlines. Holding live streams on social media bringing the stories of those impacted into the public eye. Raising tens of thousands of dollars for charities. Directing his volunteer network to check on vulnerable residents rather than push his own campaign.

The last few days he has been making stops across Massachusetts (with PPE on and social distancing intact!) to hand-deliver food to hospitals, delivery workers, and others on the frontlines.

Because that has what he has done his entire career: show up. Where the need is greatest, where the hurt hits hardest, where others haven't.

Senator Markey's reputation and record are different. He isn't here enough. He isn't in Massachusetts enough. And we can't afford absent leadership right now.

We need better than the status quo. We need leadership in a Senator who will be on the ground - fighting by our side - as we recover and rebuild.

So, we're asking, If you are financially able, could you please make a $3 contribution to our campaign? With your help, we can win our primary on September 1, and give Massachusetts the leadership it needs in the U.S. Senate during a time of unprecedented crisis.

We know how difficult these times are, and we know a donation may be out of the question for many. That's ok, and from the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful for the support, energy, attention, and love that you give this campaign every day.

But we are asking because we believe this fight has taken on a new urgency. Our path ahead is long and hard. Massachusetts is going to need the very best representation at every level of government to get through this.

We need someone who will show up on the frontlines. Someone who will fight in the trenches with us. Someone who will listen. And someone who will lead.

Joe has made it clear he's up for the challenge. So let's give Massachusetts the leadership we deserve.
