On Tuesday, September 10 our staff will present at Governor Hochul's 2024 LGBTQIA+ Convening in Albany. The event brings together policymakers and government officials from across state agencies to hear directly from advocates about what is most needed in our community. Our staff, in partnership with members of The New York State Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health & Human Services Network will share two presentations:

Beyond Advocacy: Issues Facing Unhoused LGBTQIA+ Youth in NYS
Beyond Advocacy is an honest panel discussion focusing on LGBTQ+ young adults who have experienced homelessness in New York State. The panel will feature five young adults, aged 18-29, who have recently navigated various New York State systems to access homeless youth services and resources, including the shelter system, HRA, drop-in programs, and more.

Welcoming Our Newest Neighbors: Empowering LGBTQ+ Immigrants and Asylum Seekers
This workshop will highlight the systemic challenges and inequalities faced by LGBTQ+ immigrants, and asylum seekers in New York State and propose a set of comprehensive policy solutions. Participants will learn about the unique obstacles in housing, legal support, healthcare, and long-term integration. The session will feature presentations, a breakout discussion, and an interactive Q&A to ensure active engagement.
