With the closures of bars and restaurants, beer distributors nationwide are stuck with stockpiles of kegs that are slowly approaching their expiration dates. “Suddenly, 60,000 gallons of beer in my cooler are going out of code,” David J. Farrell, the president and chief executive of Farrell Distributing, told the New York Times. As one solution, they are donating some of the kegs to be decanted and distilled down into hand sanitizer.
Over 700 people in Iran have been fatally poisoned after a false belief circulated that methanol cures COVID-19. Alcohol poisoning has skyrocketed by ten times over in Iran in the past year, according to a government report released earlier in April.
Consumers drive about 70% of all economic activity in the United States. However, the confidence index tumbled to its lowest level in almost six years. Kathy Bostjancic, the chief U.S. financial economist at Oxford Economics, said the confidence declines were worrisome because “consumers’ downbeat views about future income prospects can restrain consumer spending and the overall economy.”
