Over 26 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance since this crisis began. And while families are struggling with this unprecedented economic crisis, rent is still due. Healthcare bills are piling up. Lines at food banks stretch for blocks. The American people need support, and they need it now.

That's why I'm endorsing a plan that would provide at least $2,000 a month to every American on a monthly basis until employment levels return to pre-COVID-19 levels.

We can't allow big restaurant chains and Trump-owned businesses to run away with the majority of relief funding, folks. We need to look out for each other, and that means supporting hardworking Americans when tragedy strikes.

The CARES Act provided a one-time direct cash payment of $1,200 - but that's not enough to get Americans back on their feet and sustain them through an economic downturn like the one we're facing. We also need to expand the program to millions of more Americans who were excluded from the payments provided by the CARES Act.

Many states are extending stay-at-home orders through the spring and canceling events well into the summer months. Businesses could - and should - be closed for the foreseeable future as states just begin to flatten the curve. This is the right call for our health, but devastating for families struggling with unemployment.

Monthly direct cash payments will go a long way toward keeping America moving forward while we're sheltering safely in our homes. That's why I'm calling on Congress to immediately pass legislation to get cash into the hands of the American people. Add your name if you're with me →
