Welcome to another edition of FT Now! Missouri and Mississippi became
the first states this week to try and legally hold the Chinese
government accountable for the spread of COVID-19. While we wait and see
how that goes, many states are beginning to put in place plans for safe
re-openings. The governors of Texas and Missouri have been among the
first to roll out plans to get their states back up and running. Read

Missouri, Mississippi Sue China Over "An Appalling Campaign of Deceit"

What Happened:

On Tuesday, the Missouri Attorney General filed a civil lawsuit in
federal court claiming that China is "responsible for the enormous
death, suffering, and economic losses they inflicted on the world,
including Missourians." On Thursday, Mississippi followed suit.

Why You Should Care:

There's widespread consensus that the Chinese government hid the truth
about COVID-19 in the early days of the outbreak. Many think there
should be repercussions.

What Happens Next:

It's hard to say what, if anything, will happen with the lawsuit. But
we'll be keeping an eye on it!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott to Deploy "Strike Force" to Restart and
Revitalize the Lone Star State

re-opening.

Why You Should Care:

The goal, according to Abbott, is to continue "efforts to contain
COVID-19 while also adopting safe standards that will allow us to begin
the process of reopening Texas."

What Happens Next:

Texas - like Missouri and other states around the country - begins
planning for life after social distancing restrictions are lifted.
