Team,
I headed back to Washington this week, face mask on and Clorox wipes in hand, to cast my vote for the next coronavirus relief package.
It includes billions of dollars to bolster the Paycheck Protection Program, which will provide additional support for our small businesses, and further funding for small business grants and loans, hospitals, and COVID-19 testing.
This is the fourth relief package we have passed, and it's clear that we can't let up now.
Another 4.4 million Americans filed for unemployment last week - 26 million Americans have filed for employment since this crisis began.
And while more than $1.2 billion in federal Paycheck Protection Program funding was approved across 6,100 Rhode Island businesses, many small business owners report that they have yet to receive any funds. It's a story being heard across the nation.
House Democrats stepped up to ensure we can close this gap AND provide critical resources to our hospitals and communities.
But while we were negotiating, Trump delayed the delivery of direct cash payments to millions of Americans because he wanted his name on the checks. He cut funding for the World Health Organization. And he continued to push discredited medical advice and misinformation.
House Democrats have been working around the clock to fulfill our promise of bringing relief to American families, workers, and small businesses. Americans need leaders they can rely on, and I'm proud of the funding we secured in this round of relief. The work continues, and I will keep you updated.
Stay safe,
-- David----
