Friends, I never trusted a politician who pointed a gun at a teenager in a TV ad, but this disregard for public health is beyond the pale.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s decision to reopen gyms, barber shops, tattoo parlors, movie theaters and bowling alleys as soon as this week spits in the face of public health experts who recommended waiting and condemns more Georgians to sickness and death. The GOP isn’t even denying that part. They’re just forcing working people to choose between a paycheck and a clean bill of health since Mitch McConnell won’t send taxpayers monthly cash relief.

This is a moment where it would be really important for Georgia to have U.S. senators who had not disgraced themselves in an insider trading scandal. Unfortunately, Kelly Loeffler and my opponent David Perdue received critical public health information, but instead of warning and preparing the public, they began trading stocks to protect their financial self-interest, all the while downplaying the public threat. After 8 years as a mayor and public safety director, I would have made very different choices than David Perdue over the last several months.

I’ve rolled up my sleeves as a mayor and reformed a public pension, an employee healthcare system, and balanced a city budget when we couldn’t print money at the Treasury to solve our problems — and we made Columbus one of the 25 best run cities in America by the time I left office in 2018.

This race is deadlocked and you can make the difference that pushes us over the top in this primary. We have what it takes to beat Perdue this November but I need you with me right now. Donate and help show Georgia what real public service is all about.
