Team,
When I first entered the Naval Academy at 18 years old, I took an oath to bear true faith and allegiance to our Constitution. Our Supreme Court justices took the same oath.
Alarmingly, it appears some justices have abandoned that oath — putting their own personal and political interests ahead of our country. Just take a look at what has happened over the last two years:
 *
   In
   a
   6-3
   decision,
   the
   Supreme
   Court
   overturned
   decades
   of
   precedent
   in
   its
   2022
   Dobbs
   decision,
   rolling
   back
   abortion
   rights
   and
   fulfilling
   a
   decades-long
   goal
   of
   conservative
   activists.
 *
   In
   2023,
   ProPublica
   revealed
   that
   Justice
   Clarence
   Thomas
   had
   accepted
   luxurious
   trips
   paid
   for
   by
   prominent
   GOP
   megadonors,
   including
   Harlan
   Crow.
 *
   Earlier
   this
   year,
   The
   New
   York
   Times
   reported
   that
   Justice
   Samuel
   Alito
   had
   a
   flag
   connected
   to
   various
   far-right
   groups
   flying
   outside
   his
   New
   Jersey
   vacation
   home.
 *
   And,
   last
   month,
   the
   Supreme
   Court
   ruled
   that
   Donald
   Trump
   has
   total
   immunity
   from
   any
   “official
   acts”
   he
   committed
   while
   in
   office
   —
   upending
   the
   fundamental
   notion
   in
   American
   democracy
   that
   no
   one
   is
   above
   the
   law.
These are just a few examples of the outrageous, partisan behavior exhibited by the current majority on the Supreme Court, but it is too much to bear. The Supreme Court should be a moderating force in our democracy, not a defense team for Donald Trump.
That’s why I’m taking action. Earlier this year, I introduced the Stop Judge Shopping Act , legislation endorsed by Washington’s most prominent watchdog group that would ensure partisan activists can’t game the judiciary to set national policy. And it’s why I’m a proud co-sponsor of the Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act , which would ensure Supreme Court justices are held to the highest ethical standards and establish real oversight mechanisms.
The American people can’t wait any longer for change in the Supreme Court. If you agree, please chip in $10 to support my work today. I won’t stop fighting to defend our democracy, whether the threat comes from Donald Trump or from the nation’s highest court. [[link removed]]
