Update on Appropriations

THE BRIEF:

South Korea-based SeAH Group will invest $110 million to establish a high-performance metal manufacturing facility in Temple, Texas. The project will create more than 100 new jobs in Central Texas.
The job market’s “considerable cooling” is now potentially a greater threat to the economy than high inflation, strengthening the case for interest rate cuts, according to US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
The House passed SAVE bill requires proof of US Citizenship to vote in federal elections, 198 Democrats voted against.

PROTECTING AMERICAN ELECTIONS

This week, the House passed the Safeguard American Voting Eligibility (SAVE) Act to protect the integrity of America's elections. The right to vote is a sacred component of our democracy, and that's why eligibility to vote should be strictly protected to include only American citizens. The SAVE Act updates the law to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote and allows states to purge their voter rolls of noncitizens. We know that noncitizens have already been found on voter rolls in states like Pennsylvania, and with over 7.2 million illegal border crossings, it is vital that this legislation be signed into law.

CONSTITUENT SERVICES UPDATE

In June, my office assisted 224 constituents with issues involving a federal agency and returned over $79,000 to Central Texans in the form of back IRS refunds, owed VA benefits, and delayed Social Security. UPDATE ON APPROPRIATIONS

Representative Carter listens to amendment debate at the full committee markup of the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill.

This week, the House Appropriations Committee passed the last of twelve funding bills out of the committee. This process is necessary to bring the bills to the floor for consideration. The 2025 funding bills are strong, conservative pieces of legislation that cut non-defense spending by 6% to right our country's fiscal track. While the House has passed a few of these bills, including my Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill, off the floor, there's still more work to be done. I'll be sure to keep you updated on the progress of this critical process.
