THE WEEK's BIG 3

Meta will now remove posts from their platforms that use “Zionist” in conjunction with antisemitic tropes and rhetoric. ADL spoke out against the Academy Museum’s decision to highlight two filmmakers who have allegedly supported antisemitic protests and events in America.

US victims of October 7 attacks sue Iran, Syria and North Korea over alleged Hamas support

“A leading antisemitism watchdog on Monday filed a lawsuit in US federal court on behalf of more than 100 victims of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel, and their families, accusing Iran, Syria and North Korea of providing material support to Hamas.” READ MORE: CNN International

+JG Tweet: Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of antisemitism and terror. The regime, along with Syria & North Korea, must be held responsible for their role in the 10/7 attack – the largest antisemitic attack since the Holocaust. We’re putting all of ADL’s weight behind this effort.

Meta says it will remove more posts attacking ‘Zionists,’ a term some use interchangeably with Jews

“Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, announced that it is changing its rules to restrict the use of the word “Zionist,” saying the term had often become a proxy for hate speech against Jews.” READ MORE: NBC News

+ADL Tweet: We applaud Meta’s decision to expand its hate speech policy regarding those who use the term “Zionist” as a derogatory way to describe Jews or Israelis. These guidelines will help ensure the term is not used as an antisemitic stereotype, or in a manner that threatens or incites violence.

KEY ADL SOCIAL STATEMENTS

  • Rep. Brad Schneider has been targeted twice in the last week – once at his home, and once at his office in the Capitol. Hostage posters were torn down and ripped up in a vile act of hate. This was done on July 4th, all while 8 Americans remain in Hamas captivity.

  • Hats off to Sullivan & Cromwell for a case study in leadership. You wouldn’t want to hire people at your company who had participated in racist protests. You wouldn’t want to recruit individuals who took part in hateful anti-AAPI activities… Americans enjoy the rights of assembly and expression. And employers have the right to build teams and create cultures that reflect their values. Home more firms follow Sullivan & Cromwell’s lead.

  • #OTD 156 years ago, the states ratified the #14th Amendment. Many of the rights we have today – from citizenship to interracial and same-sex marriage – are rooted in the 14th Amendment and must be protected.
