Folks,

As COVID-19 continues to spread, our healthcare workers are our front line of defense. Nurses, doctors, and paramedics are risking their health and safety every day to treat patients and contain this virus.

Unfortunately, many hospitals and healthcare centers around the country are experiencing a shortage of PPE (personal protective equipment). Without gowns, masks, and gloves, healthcare professionals are at high risk of contracting COVID-19 while working with potential patients. They're also facing an increased risk of spreading the infection to their families, neighbors, and coworkers.

Doctors and nurses around the country, including in Rhode Island, are carefully monitoring their supplies of PPE. Healthcare workers in hard-hit areas, like New York City, are reusing old materials or constructing their own PPE out of rain ponchos or garbage bags.

Our frontline healthcare heroes deserve better. Sign our petition and call on lawmakers to support policies that keep them safe!

Here's the thing: Donald Trump could easily use the Defense Production Act to speed up the production of PPE. He could use the powers of the federal government to mobilize a 50-state response and ensure supplies get where they need to go.

But he wasted the critical early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic downplaying the severity of the crisis instead of ordering critical supplies to slow the spread of the virus. And his hands-off approach has left states to fend for themselves, often bidding against their neighbors for supplies.

Sign on here to demand the government immediately take action to support our healthcare workers and get them the supplies they need.

Thanks to everyone joining me in taking action, and an even bigger thanks to our doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers.
