Today, we commemorate and celebrate the 248th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence – the birth of our democracy.
Our nation has seen its share of both progress and setbacks – and at this moment, we’re facing one of the most pressing challenges in our nation’s history.
Not only is there a real chance that Donald Trump, a convicted felon and insurrectionist, could win the presidency, but the Supreme Court’s dangerous decision declaring the president legal immunity has undermined the fundamental principles of accountability and the rule of law.
We’ve been warning for months that a Trump White House could lead to aggressive attempts to diminish civil liberties, further undermining our democratic institutions and democracy itself.
And now, with the Supreme Court giving its blessing, we can expect Trump’s second term to be even more unchecked and unhinged.
Winning elections at the ballot box is our first priority. But we need to be ready for MAGA attempts in the courtroom, where they will likely challenge the integrity of the electoral process every chance they get.
