LULAC CELEBRATES THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE 1964 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT
=================================================================================

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says America is
Strongest When Our Country's Laws Protect Even the Weakest Among Us

Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is proud to
honor the 60th anniversary of the signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act by
President Lyndon B. Johnson, a pivotal moment in American history. This landmark
legislation was designed to end segregation in public places and banned
employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national
origin. It was a significant step toward achieving the promise of equality and
justice for all Americans.

'LULAC will never forget the hard-fought battles and the lives sacrificed to
bring about changes for a better society," says Roman Palomares, LULAC national
president. "Our communities, government, and military have all been fortified by
the inclusion and diversity of our great nation. The privileges we enjoy now to
buy a home anywhere, have our children attend any public school, apply for any
job, and even see a movie anywhere we choose were not things communities of color
could do before. We have much to be thankful for and mindful that these civil
rights must be protected from infringement," he adds.

The impact of the Civil Rights Act has been profound. It has transformed American
society by dismantling many legal barriers that upheld segregation and
discrimination. The Act paved the way for subsequent legislation to promote
equality and protect all citizens' rights, regardless of their background.
However, while we celebrate progress, we must also recognize that the fight for
civil rights is ongoing. Discrimination and inequality persist in various forms,
and we must continue advocating for justice and equality.

"America is stronger because of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Our nation is indebted
to great leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others who placed themselves
in harm's way to make change happen. LULAC continues to be on those front lines,
still fighting daily so that every man, woman, and child is afforded the full
promise of our Constitution," concludes Palomares.

As we commemorate this significant milestone, LULAC reaffirms its commitment to
protecting and advancing the civil rights of all individuals. We honor the legacy
of those who fought for equality and pledge to continue their work, ensuring that
every person in America can live with dignity, respect, and equal opportunity.
