John,
Our friends at The Trevor Project and Everytown for Gun Safety just released new data showing the harrowing connection between mass shootings, firearms, and suicide risk amongst LGBTQ+ youth.
Here are some of the key findings:
– 39% of all LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year.
– 40% of LGBTQ+ young people reported that there was a firearm in their home. The majority ( 92% ) of those with a firearm in the home reported that it was not theirs.
– LGBTQ+ young people living in the South reported the highest rates of having a firearm in their home (48%).
– LGBTQ+ young people who reported the presence of a firearm in their home reported higher rates of having seriously considered suicide in the past year (43%) , compared to their LGBTQ+ peers who did not report a firearm in their home (37%).
– Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-questioning young people reported higher rates of being impacted or knowing someone impacted by a mass shooting (22%) , compared to their cisgender LGBQ+ peers (19%).
– LGBTQ+ young people who reported being impacted or knowing someone impacted by a mass shooting reported higher rates of having seriously considered suicide in the past year (45%).
There’s a lot to unpack here, John.
And in addition to this data from The Trevor Project and Everytown, we have another staggering statistic from the ACLU below ⤵️:

It couldn’t be clearer this Pride Month: this is a time for action.
Queer youth are facing violence from every direction — whether it’s from being impacted by a mass shooting, anti-LGBTQ bills, or the fact that queer and trans folks are 2x more likely to be shot.
This cannot go on.
At March For Our Lives, we will continue to uplift queer voices, mobilize youth across the country, and build our future one step at a time until all people live in a world free of gun violence.
We can’t do this without you, John. If you’re able, can you contribute today to help us fight to expand LGBTQ+ rights and make gun violence against queer youth obsolete? [[link removed]]
