Last night, we witnessed a devastating blow to our democracy. Jamaal
Bowman lost his primary race in what became the most expensive House
primary in history. Over $20 million was spent by AIPAC and other special
interest groups to unseat a progressive, Black leader who has been a
relentless advocate for the people.
We've been warning folks about the undue influence of money in politics,
and last night, we saw it in action. This isn’t just a fight for one seat;
it's a fight for the very soul of our democracy. If we allow special
interest groups to put a price tag on our elections and buy seats in
Congress, we risk losing the representative government that our
communities deserve.
Cori Bush's primary is next on the list on August 6th, and they are coming
for her just like they came for Jamaal.
