Hi John --

As you probably know, Congress passed the CARES Act a couple of weeks ago as a response to the COVID-19 crisis. This $2.2 trillion piece of emergency legislation is an essential first step, providing direct payments to individuals and expanding unemployment benefits by $600 per week. This is in addition to unprecedented relief for American small businesses.

Normally, my campaign is focused on the big policy challenges of the future -- like how we can solve the climate crisis or make sure every family has access to affordable healthcare. And we still are. But the CARES Act has a lot of moving parts, and people here in the South Sound are going to have a lot of questions.

I want to tell you now that I am here to help.

As Congressman Denny Heck’s District Director, I learned how to navigate federal red tape and secure and distribute federal resources like VA benefits or Social Security back pay via face-to-face casework. I know how this stuff works.

I always encourage you to reach out directly, but you can also visit my Facebook and Twitter pages for new informational videos designed to help you understand what resources or benefits you or your small business might be eligible for. I’ll post new material regularly, covering the most relevant topics for most of us in the South Sound. You can see one of the videos here:

As you can imagine, I never expected to be running a campaign during a pandemic or making informational videos from my kitchen. But just like many of you, I’m keeping busy and making sure I can be helpful. As one of my top-tier supporters, I want you to know I’m also putting a lot of thought into how our campaign needs to adjust to the reality of the weeks and months ahead.

There’s no two ways about it -- this campaign is now entirely reliant on digital communications and outreach. This is a grassroots campaign. With all public events cancelled, the only way we can reach our weekly fundraising goals is by people like you stepping up. To be honest, I’m a little bit worried because it’s already Friday, and we are still behind.

If we can raise another $5,480 by midnight tomorrow, we will hit our weekly goal. Can you chip in $25, $50, or whatever you can today to help us hit this goal? Here’s the link to give: [link removed]

Thanks for being a part of this campaign and for always having my back.

Phil
