No one disagrees our nation must be rebuilt so it can be sustained for our children and grandchildren. And that we must rebuild it in a way that looks to the future, the 21st century, and also deals with climate change and carbon pollution at the same time.

Once we have moved beyond this crisis, we need a COVID-19 recovery package, and I'm pushing hard to create family-wage jobs by rebuilding our country and economy for working people. I, with my colleagues, have been focused on immediate relief but we also have to think about our future. That's why I'm determined to advance a sustainable green infrastructure package that would jumpstart the economy, employ millions of people and help us achieve our goals of a fossil fuel-free future.

My plan to include a green infrastructure package in the massive COVID-19 recovery plan is the opportunity to do just that. I'm calling for increased investments in transit, high and higher speed rail, and the electrification of the National Highway System. Modernizing our transportation system gives us the opportunity to develop a more sustainable and environmentally friendly system that will reduce and eventually eliminate our carbon footprint. As we respond to and recover from the COVID-19 crisis, we must also amplify our fight against climate change. This is a unique opportunity and a no brainer!

Our health as a nation must include a measure of how we're fighting climate change, how we're moving away from fossil fuels, and how we're creating well-paying jobs for Americans at the same time.

If we are going to rebuild from this crisis it should include a plan to move our nation into the 21st century on all fronts.

This is my promise to you. I'm going to go to work every day to fight any efforts to use this pandemic to make the rich richer. I'm going to do everything I must to secure our nation's future, and the future of everyone who calls America home.
