Hey John, remember The Epoch Times?
They’re the conspiracy-spreading, right-wing fake news outlet that’s been putting up these weird billboards all over America:
Well, John, it turns out that, according to the Department of Justice, the organization that profits from spreading lies and dangerous conspiracy theories might have committed money laundering.
As a quick refresher, The Epoch Times is a fake news outlet known for promoting COVID-19 misinformation, the Big Lie, and other baseless right-wing conspiracies. The paper also spent more money on social media advertising for Donald Trump than any other organization outside of the Trump campaign in 2020.
Earlier this month, the Department of Justice indicted the Chief Financial Officer at The Epoch Times in a multinational $67 million money laundering scheme.
The scheme boosted revenues at The Epoch Times by about 410%, and some of those dollars went directly to efforts to re-elect Trump in 2020.
Now the case is ongoing, John, and both The Epoch Times and the Department of Justice have declined to answer questions about the organization's future.
But for now, they’re still operating. That means the organization The New York Times calls “one of the country’s most powerful digital publishers” is still pushing right-wing lies out to millions of Americans every single day.
