Dear friend,

One after another, crises continue to target vulnerable immigrants and workers of color including our members. We find ourselves in the midst of yet another one, and this time, we are at the epicenter. A vast majority of our community members live in Queens, which is the epicenter of the epicenter of this pandemic in the U.S. Yet, in the eye of the storm, it’s incredible to see our community power and resilience in action during this time. Neighborhood action committees, aid networks, and local associations have formed to support one another.

Today, I write to urge you to donate to Adhikaar ([link removed]) . If you’re able, please consider giving some or all of your stimulus check to Adhikaar so that we can support the Nepali-speaking community in dire need of the funds and resources.

Adhikaar is directly supporting the community with a comprehensive crisis response plan based on thousands of calls made to our members.
* Direct services and support: Emergency direct support for low-income Nepali-speaking workers and others with urgent needs including monetary support, accessing services and supporting hundreds of individual questions. We are also supporting unemployment filing through Unemployment Virtual Clinics, coordinating calls with Nepali-speaking doctors, enrolling people in NY State Healthcare, helping with immigration needs, and more.
* Community education: Public education video series ([link removed] ) to address COVID-19 related concerns and questions from the community. These videos are vetted for accurate information and language accessible for not just those with limited English proficiency but those who are limited literacy.
* Advocacy: Advocacy on critical issues from ensuring people have access quarantine facilities ([link removed]) , testing, to ensuring language access with the DOL and inclusion of all immigrants in COVID-19 response.
* Organizing: From thousands of 1-on-1 calls to member meetings and training to ensure people are getting counted in the Census ([link removed]) , we continue to organize our members. We’re integrating into this technology training so we come out stronger with our online organizing capacity.

And as we go, we continue to add on to respond to urgent needs. Next week we will start to purchase supplies for various distribution networks in Queens supporting our community and join the campaign on rent suspension.

Your donation will ensure that we are building power and strengthening our community in the middle of this crisis. We have shifted the vast majority of our work to respond to this crisis. This crisis has also brought to light the urgency of our long-term vision to create systemic change to protect those most vulnerable. Our commitment to social justice and for low-wage immigrant workers is at the heart of our campaign to battle the COVID-19 crisis.

We know that for many of our members things will not go back to “normal” once the immediate threat of this virus weathers out. This is why we ask for your donation, for the unpredictable aftermath of this crisis ([link removed]) . Please consider donating MightyCause’s administrative costs to ensure we receive your full donation. You’re also welcome to email us back if you’d like to send us a personal check.

Thank you for your support.

In Solidarity,

Pabitra Benjamin
Executive Director
