Webinar: Minimum Wages and Health

Thursday, April 23, 2020

2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT

The COVID-19 pandemic has shed a light on the experiences of essential workers, who have sacrificed their health and safety to do necessary jobs, but who have poor work-family supports, are paid a minimum wage, and struggle to make ends meet.

The Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) and the University of California-Berkeley's Work-Family Supports and Health Research Hub presents Minimum Wages and Health.

This webinar will explore the impact that the minimum wage has on worker and family health outcomes. This webinar is the first in a series of three webinars produced in partnership with the Policies for Action, a signature research program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, administered by the Urban Institute on the impacts of work supports on health outcomes.

The webinar series will bring together researchers, policymakers, advocates, and other stakeholders to discuss the evidence that work supports, such as fair compensatory practices, can positively affect family health and well-being.

Moderator:

Dr. Heidi Hartmann, President Emerita and Senior Research Economist, Institute for Women's Policy Research

Panelists:

Dr. Lindsey Bullinger, Assistant Professor, School of Public Policy, Georgia Tech
Dr. Anna Godoey, labor economist and research economist at the Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics (CWED), Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, University of California, Berkeley
Paul Sonn, State Policy Program Director, National Employment Law Project
