The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, and the Minister of Transport, the Honourable Marc Garneau, today issued the following statement:
“Today marks 100 days since a surface-to-air missile struck Ukrainian International Airlines Flight PS752 and tragically killed 176 people, including 55 Canadians, in Tehran, Iran, on January 8.
“On behalf of the government of Canada, we extend our deepest condolences to the families grieving this terrible tragedy. We grieve with you.
“Canada continues to advocate for transparency, accountability, justice, and compensation on behalf of the families and loved ones of those who perished in this tragic event and we will continue to work tirelessly with other grieving nations on their behalf.
“The government recently announced the appointment of the Honourable Ralph Goodale as Special Advisor to the Government of Canada's response to Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 tragedy, who is working to help support the families.
“This tragedy touched all Canadians. As we solemnly remember the victims of this crime, we will be relentless in the pursuit of justice for them and their families.”
