No one is above the law
It’s an American ideal, a safeguard intended to ensure that everyone, regardless of their status, is held to the same legal standards.
It doesn’t appear to apply to former President Donald Trump.
Trump was recently convicted on 34 felony counts in New York, but his numerous other ongoing trials and investigations are still up in the air — not to mention the untold amount of crimes he hasn’t been charged with.
We can’t be distracted by Trump and his theatrics. It’s important that we remember his legal proceedings aren’t just about him; they’re a test of our nation’s democratic structures and ability to uphold the rule of law.

Trump, as a high-profile defendant, a former president, and multi-billionaire, has been afforded much more leeway in court — particularly when repeatedly violating a gag order imposed by a federal judge. In all of his court cases, we demand that Donald Trump be held to the same standards as any other defendant.
Additionally, the Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear Trump's immunity case, which delayed the trial for his actions during the violent insurrection on the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. SCOTUS’ eagerness to obstruct justice and validate Trump's criminal actions through supporting the radically undemocratic concept of presidential immunity is deeply troubling.
We hold firm that democracy demands accountability. A justice system that treats everyday Americans differently than it treats the rich and powerful goes against our founding principles.
State and federal authorities must hold Trump accountable for repeated attacks on our democracy and elections — and he must be judged by a jury of his peers, like every other American. No one, not even a former president, is above the law.
