John,
After Donald Trump’s historic conviction in his Manhattan criminal trial,
Republicans left and right, nationwide defended and vowed to propel their
presumptive presidential nominee — now a convicted felon, to the White
House this November.
Unsurprisingly, our part-time senator Ted Cruz was no exception.
Ted (doing what he loves best 🙄) made an appearance on Fox Business where
he proceeded to audition himself to become the newest member of Trump’s
legal team — rather than doing his job. During his appearance, he made a
prediction that Trump’s conviction would be overturned.
We’re obviously not surprised, after all, it’s Ted Cruz at the end of the
day. A man who once threw his family under the bus to excuse a last minute
Cancun getaway. But watching Ted defend a convicted felon was nothing
short of pathetic,
John.
If Trump is reelected in November, we can expect our part-time senator to
rubber stamp Trump’s fascist agenda. [ [link removed] ]So can you donate
$5 today to power our work to Cut Cruz this fall?
If you weren't aware before, Ted Cruz is *technically* an
attorney,
John. Yet he doesn't seem to
understand how our legal system works. ⏬
* In general, once convicted by a jury, overturning a state-level
conviction is considered a long-shot at best — even for a former
president.^1
* Any appeal to overturn Trump’s conviction would likely take months, if
not longer, effectively ensuring his status as a convicted felon on
Election Day.^2
* Despite some concerns that Trump’s attempts to overturn his conviction
may eventually end up before the Supreme Court’s docket — and while
not entirely impossible – this is highly unlikely as the Court’s
ability to overturn state court convictions is incredibly narrow.^3
John, we know
a lot of this is confusing and complicated. And we’re not claiming to be
lawyers. But the fact that Ted Cruz either doesn’t understand how the law
works or doesn’t care is embarrassing.
Fortunately, if Ted wants to become the newest member of Trump's legal
team, we're more than happy to help him out — by denying him another six
years in the U.S. Senate. But in order to win, we're going to need to
shore up our support.
