Shifting Currents: Unveiling North Carolina's Conservative WaveDelving into Voter Registration Trends and the Political Landscape
Last night’s show, we showed WFAE's Steve Harrison's report on exciting data about how voter registrations are changing in North Carolina. Analyzing the recent voter trends reveals the state has been going conservative since 2020. Candidate and activist conservatives should pay attention to this trend. Conservative UpswingData highlights from the Board of Elections show a noteworthy trend: a substantial decline in Democrat registrations in 29 counties, including major areas like Durham and Wake County. The numbers? A staggering -126,000 registrations for Democrats and +156,000 for Republicans since 2020. With 2.4 million registered Democrats, 2.25 million Republicans, and 2.77 million UNA voters, registrations are getting competitive. As much as this is good news for Republicans, it underscores the need for an aggressive get-out-the-vote (GOTV) campaign. Remember, registrations now don't necessarily translate to success on election day. The most critical function of any campaign should be getting out the vote during early voting and on election day. The North Carolina StoryInterestingly, there’s a demographic twist in the voter registrations in the state’s largest county. Republicans in Wake County have added a modest 5,000 new voters since 2020, while Democrats lost around 7,000. But the fascinating bit? The addition of 10,000 Hispanic voters, a group increasingly leaning conservative, to the voter rolls in Wake. Across the country, in the 2022 midterms, 40% of the Hispanic vote went to Republicans. Some recent polls suggest that up to 60% of the vote could go to Republicans in November. NC Senate PickupWake County Republican candidate Scott Lassiter, who is running in Senate 13, is laser-focused on education, school safety, and public safety, issues resonating well with unaffiliated suburban voters. Lassiter, a Wake County vice principal, and the county’s Soil and Water commissioner is running a solid campaign that zeros in on essential issues while rejecting the distractions presented by his opponent’s Marxist-like rent control bill. Lassiter has a good story to tell. While serving on the Apex Town Council, he spearheaded the plan to put school safety officers in all local schools. Given the rates of exploding violence on campus, Lassiter’s move made years ago has kept students and school staff safe. It's a battle of grounded policies against radical ideologies. Grassroots Movement: The Real Game ChangerAt the grassroots level, the Wake County Republican Club isn't sitting idle. With strategic voter registration drives, they aim to surpass Democrats in numbers. Booths at grocery stores, engaging new residents, and hosting neighborhood meetings have become the norm. It’s not just about the party; any proactive Republican can jump on this registration bandwagon in all 100 counties. NC Political Tea is free today.
