John,

Major Update!! The top 8 legislative priorities list for the Republican Party of Texas (RPT), ranked by convention delegates, has been released. Thankfully, the RPT and many Texans believe in the importance of passing legislation that stops the oversexualization of children. Numerous Texas Values team members advocated and worked hard to ensure this priority was ranked among the top 8 by testifying at RPT Convention committee hearings, sharing calls to action by email and social media; and talking directly to decision makers. Many thanks to all of the delegates who responded by voting for this priority in their top 8 ranking.

The legislative priority of stopping the sexualization of children includes repealing the affirmative defense in criminal law so that bad actors cannot hide behind the so-called obscenity “free speech” exemption. The legislative priority also emphasizes the importance of a bill prohibiting  sexual orientation and gender identity from being taught in schools. Efforts were made last session to pass a law on this topic, but actually didn’t pass.

Although a legislative priority to ban gambling and sports betting in Texas ranked in the top 15 legislative priorities, after the convention voted, it did not make it to the top 8. However, we will work hard to make sure toxic casino gambling does not flood our state and that these crime magnets don’t end up right next door to you. Thank you to all of our grassroots supporters! Together with our help, your voice was heard!
