For some reason, progressive politicians around the nation do NOT understand that voting is only for citizens.
Thankfully, a majority of North Carolinians know better.
A recent poll shows 87% of North Carolina voters support a citizens-only voting amendment to the state constitution.
And fortunately, only 4% said they would strongly oppose such an amendment.
That’s because North Carolinians know that an essential element of democracy is an electorate that holds a stake in the future of the nation; that voting comes with responsibilities. We are obligated to support and defend the Constitution, respect and obey the laws, and to defend this country. That’s why if someone wants to vote they need to become a citizen.
That’s also why so many North Carolinians would vote for a citizen-only amendment to the state constitution!
But right now, North Carolina doesn’t enshrine this protection in the constitution, and it’s not too hard imagining progressive elected officials exploiting that fact.
In fact, a federal judge already dismissed a case opposing Washington, D.C.’s non-citizen voting law.
One of life’s few certainties is that political winds will inevitably change, which is why we need our state constitution to clearly prohibit non-citizen voting.
There’s already a bill in the General Assembly that would allow this issue to be brought before voters this upcoming election. You can watch a short clipof Locke expert, Dr. Andy Jackson, speak in favor of it here.
And not only is this consistent with democratic norms, as this poll shows, it’s what voters want.
The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) spent more money than it made due to a lot of mistakes.
Now the California State Government is establishing firmer oversight.
Why does this matter in North Carolina❓
North Carolina public schools lost 50,000 students in 2019. And while those students are getting an education that better suits them, it means public school revenue will decline.
Federal COVID “aid” helped add 3,700 new staff to North Carolina public schools. That “aid” ends in September.
That means if we don’t learn the lessons of California, some of our schools could end up just like SFUSD.
A tax that taxes businesses for existing, specifically for any assets that they have. This means that whether they’re making or losing money, they still have to pay this tax.
And all of that means this tax incentivizes people to NOT do business in NC. And that’s not great.
