Jack, do you pay to read the New York Times? How about the Washington Post? How about your local newspaper? (Assuming you still have one near you ...)
The New York Times and Washington Post are two of the most-read outlets in the world, but they lock their content behind a paywall because online ads don't bring in enough money for most publications to sustain themselves. That's true for Daily Kos too—at least the part about ads, anyway.
Ad revenue can't support Daily Kos operations, and it hasn't been able to for more than a decade now. Unlike other outlets, though, we don't have a paywall. We think it's important to make the news free and accessible to everyone. We've been able to do that thanks to the continued support of our readership.
Donations of just a few bucks at a time are our largest source of income, and they've helped to keep the site free from a paywall—and accessible to folks who might not be able to afford to get past one. And when I say a few bucks, I mean a few bucks—our average donation is just $9.44. That's why I'm asking:
Jack, can you please donate $9.44 right now to keep Daily Kos accessible to all?
PLEASE DONATE
Thank you,
Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos
