Six minutes.
That’s all it took to change my life forever, John.
On February 14, 2018, I survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, but 17 of my classmates and teachers did not. Those six minutes made it my mission to ensure this never happens again.
That’s why I helped co-found March For Our Lives. Since 2018, we’ve worked hard to prevent any other student from experiencing the trauma and fear that I did. That’s the future I’m fighting for.
Today marks two years since our second March For Our Lives, where 70,000 people showed up in DC and 400+ sibling marches happened nationwide.

Two years ago we were again forced to march in the wake of multiple acts of gun violence, including the horrific shootings at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York and at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
But, in just the last two years, we have:
Helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the most significant piece of federal gun safety legislation in 30 years.
Mobilized students across Tennessee, North Carolina, Michigan, and more in the aftermath of shootings at their schools.
Won the first gun safety package in Michigan in 40 years, including safe storage, universal background checks, and extreme risk protection orders.
Secured a national Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
Turned out record numbers of young voters for the third election cycle in a row, leading to the election of gun safety champions up and down the ballot.
Authored or signed onto 30+ amicus briefs in the courts to defend our right not to be shot.
Partnered with other gun violence prevention organizations to send 140,000 calls from victims of gun violence to congress.
Sent the NRA packing and took down their corrupt CEO Wayne LaPierre.
I’m so grateful for these wins, but I also know this is the floor and NOT the ceiling. So much work remains to be done, especially this year.
Gun violence is still the leading cause of death for young people, and we can barely go a few days without seeing a news story of another shooting. That’s why our work has to continue.
