Dear Friend,

In 2006 at the age of 15, I left Honduras by myself and travelled on top of a train until I reached the southern-most border of the United States. When I arrived, I was placed in a detention facility for unaccompanied children by Border Patrol.

I felt afraid and alone, but with the support of an advocate like those who volunteer for the Young Center, my case was heard. I was adopted by an American family and moved to Chicago, where I finished High School and eventually became a board member for the Young Center.

My immigrant story is the story of so many boys and girls who come to this country seeking safety and stability. Today, I live in France with my wife and daughter. Often, I think of the thousands of miles traveled to arrive at this destination. None of it would have been possible without the guidance and care of someone who met with me, learned my story, and fought for me, in immigration courts and beyond.

As we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month, my hope is that you’ll continue to support the Young Center in helping children find their voice so they can share their stories and fulfill their dreams.
