On May 27th, we celebrated Memorial Day. We
honored and mourned the brave men and women who died while serving our
great nation. They fought, and made the ultimate sacrifice, because
they embraced what we all know: that America – it’s value and
institutions – are worth fighting for. It’s incumbent on us to keep
those values and institutions alive and strong for many generations to
come.
The good news is that ideas like freedom and documents
like the Constitution continue to resonate with students, otherwise
known as future leaders. How do we know that? Because our scholarship
program is exploding in popularity.
In only our second year, we have received four times
as many applications than we did in either round last year. What
do those applications mean? Students have now spent over 13,400
instruction hours learning about the beauty of the American Founding
and the power of the U.S. Constitution.
Luckily, they’re learning that through our Constitutional
Study Scholarship Program because far too many students aren’t
learning basic civics in high school. According to the National
Association of Education Progress’ 2022 Civics Assessment, only 20% of
students are “proficient” in civics, and a paltry 2% are “advanced.”
If that doesn’t change, how will our republic survive?
The tremendous growth in our Scholarship Program gives me
great hope and optimism that we can turn this around.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Over the coming
months, I’ll be interviewing scholarship recipients to capture what
they’ve learned from the program, and how the scholarships are
empowering them to be great citizens.
By the end of this year, FFROA will have awarded $200,000
in scholarships. These scholarships incentivize students to learn
about this great country and help students afford the growing costs of
continuing their education.
Help us educate young Americans about their freedoms so
they understand freedom is not free. America is the greatest country
in the world. To keep it that way, we need to educate the next
generation of citizens and leaders.
