At a raucous rally in Nevada this weekend Donald Trump continued his attacks on immigrants calling them "invaders," "traffickers," and "criminals."
We will put the irony of the recently-convicted felon calling asylum-seeking immigrants "criminals" aside, but we cannot overlook how his rhetoric fuels a rising wave of hate in America.
This year's presidential election needs to be about the issues: defending democracy, fighting extremism, combatting climate change, protecting choice and LGBTQ rights. We cannot allow racist dog-whistles, hatefull conspiracies, calls for violence take over.
Words turn into action.
After Trump told an angry mob to march to the Capitol, they stormed the gates in a mad frenzy that left five people dead.
When he shouted to his fans to "knock the crap" out of protesters, they assaulted dozens of rally-goers.
When he spread phony conspiracies of election fraud, hundreds of poll workers received death threats.
And since calling Mexicans "rapists," banning Muslims, and promoting white supremacist propoganda hate crimes in America have skyrocketed.
Donald Trump's rhetoric is downright dangerous: We need you to stand on the right side of history by adding your name to our petition and condemning violent, hate-filled rhetoric before midnight tonight.
There is no place for violence in our political discourse.
