Did you see
our latest report?

When President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
(IIJA) last year, it redirected funds to departments of transportation
across the country. While these funds could be used to expand access to
public transit and energy-efficient travel methods, we’ve seen states use
that infrastructure funding to build more pollution-generating highways.

States hold the power to reverse the course we’re on. Our team launched a
new report to detail how they could spend this money on sustainable
transit to create more livable cities and opportunities for working people
instead. [ [link removed] ]You can read our report here on our website!

The toplines from our report: These funds should go toward funding green
and equitable transit, investing and improving public transportation, and
creating new jobs.

Transportation is among the largest contributors to emissions in the
United States, however, it’s also an area where climate investments could
bring transformative change. Transportation plays a crucial role in and is
an indicator of, the overall well-being of every community. Lack of access
to reliable public or private methods of transportation will drastically
limit one’s ability to go to work or school, grocery shop, or seek either
routine or emergency medical attention. As a result, reliable
transportation is the single most important factor in an individual’s
ability to escape poverty.

That’s why we’re developing a Green New Deal for Transportation campaign
that includes bold investments to realize a better future for our cities
that feature stronger, resilient, and energy-efficient infrastructure –
particularly for the people and the areas most impacted by ongoing
climate, economic, and racial crises. These funds can make a dramatic
difference in the everyday lives of our community.
