Prescribing Sanity: Doctors In America Rally Against Child "Gender Affirmation"Unveiling the "Doctors Protecting Children Declaration" and Debunking Myths Surrounding Child Sex Changes.
Over the last few years, conservative activists have fought pronouns in schools and puberty blockers in clinics. It's for a good reason. These gender-bending trends pushed by the left seriously hurt children. Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in children have been linked to bone density issues and cardiovascular issues, according to studies. Most critically, these therapies can sterilize children, robbing them of the joy of ever having a child. In a surprising twist, leading American medical organizations, like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Medical Association (AMA), have thrown their weight behind these radical treatments. Who would have imagined that pushing dangerous drugs for a political agenda would become mainstream medicine a decade ago? But not everyone is drinking this poisonous Kool-Aid. Last week, a coalition came together to sign a declaration urging the medical community to stop administering these harmful treatments to children diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Instead of rushing to give kids powerful hormones and sex-change surgeries, the statement calls for a shift towards proven counseling methods to address underlying psychological issues. “The "Doctors Protecting Children Declaration"Over 100 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, psychotherapists, and behavioral health clinicians, have signed the "Doctors Protecting Children Declaration." The experts warn about using alternative pronouns, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries. They say medical decisions should respect biological reality and prioritize the whole person's well-being. The experts point out that Europe is getting away from junk science, especially on pediatric gender transition, because independent research disproves almost all the claims that make it a no-brainer, like that it's essential for suicide prevention. The organization also launched www.biologicalintegrity.org in September 2023, a reliable medical resource on the topic of gender dysphoria for parents, teens, physicians, schools, and policymakers. Challenging the Concept of "Trans Children"The declaration also challenges the concept of "trans children," which is often promoted by Democrats and progressive activists. Most kids and teens who have thoughts and feelings that don't match their biological sex will resolve these issues through puberty. The labeling of children as "trans" isn't supported by science, they say. NC Republicans Proactive StanceRepublicans in North Carolina were ahead of the curve when they passed a bill last year that stopped this predatory healthcare practice. Under House Bill 808, doctors cannot perform surgical gender transitions on minors or prescribe, provide, or dispense puberty-blocking drugs or cross-sex hormones to them. A doctor who breaks this rule could lose their license, and children may be able to sue years after the damage has been done. Medical providers and facilities are not required to provide these treatments, and Medicaid and other state programs cannot fund gender-affirming care for minors. Republican Rep. Timothy Reeder of Pitt County and a physician at Eastern Carolina University urged lawmakers to reject claims that gender-affirming care is safe and well-studied.
While the bill was being debated, one of its sponsors, Rep. Ken Fontenot, wrote an op-ed for the Carolina Journal comparing the sterilization of children today with eugenics. From the piece:
Legal challenges launched on both sidesPrisha Mosley, formerly known as Charlie Mosley, filed a lawsuit in North Carolina's Gaston County Superior Court against therapists, physicians, surgeons, and medical facilities for facilitating her gender transition during her late teens. Mosley alleges that the medical professionals responsible for her mental and physical well-being caused harm on seven counts, including fraud, medical malpractice, and emotional distress, throughout her treatment for mental illness. It's the first case of its kind in the state and sheds light on the predatory nature of the child sex change market. In the wake of HB808, a 9-year-old transgender boy (girl) is suing North Carolina, claiming the law is unconstitutional. A UNC family medicine doctor is also part of the lawsuit. In the past, UNC Health officials have repeatedly minimized its role in providing child sex services. Sloan’s Substack is free. |
