Each month, nearly 67 million Americans receive Social Security benefits. In fact, nearly 9 out of every 10 Americans receive these benefits. Millions of older Americans rely on this income — for a high percentage of them, Social Security benefits make up over 50% of their retirement income. Nearly half of Americans don’t have access to or have no acquired retirement savings, making Social Security vital.
