Hi John,

My name popped up in the New York Times a few days ago. It wasn’t necessarily anything bad (on my part, at least), but it sure wasn’t for any reason I’d ever hoped my name would be printed. Here it is, from a piece on Congressional retirements:

- - -
NEW YORK TIMES, MAY 31, 2024
For three of the 54, [retirement] was forced: one by expulsion (George Santos, the Long Island Republican) and two by being gerrymandered out of winnable districts (Representatives Wiley Nickel and Kathy Manning, both North Carolina Democrats).

It’s a reminder of what the extreme Republican supermajority in Raleigh has cost us in North Carolina — not my job, but your voice. Millions of North Carolinians will not be fairly or adequately represented in Congress next term because the GOP put politics over people.

I’m going to continue fighting with all I’ve got, and that includes working to break the GOP supermajority in Raleigh this fall. Will you please chip in today so I can keep fighting to defeat NC Republicans and turn North Carolina blue?

By forcing through their extreme gerrymanders, Republicans purposely diluted the votes of those who don’t see eye-to-eye with them, and more often than not, those voices are from underrepresented communities like young people, low-income folks, and Communities of Color.

To do it, they packed our state courts with partisan loyalists and used political games to build a veto-proof majority. Without Tricia Cotham, who switched parties and turned her back on the very same voters who supported her, these gerrymanders would not have been possible.

John, I’m sure you agree: I’m tired of political games that put party loyalty first and working people last. This problem won’t be fixed in a day, but we can take a big step if we pull together and turn North Carolina blue this fall.

Here’s a link to pitch in so we can defeat NC Republicans on Election Day. Please help me fight for Democrats at every level.
