VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump goes off the deep end with unhinged threat
During what was supposed to be a softball sit-down interview with Sean Hannity, Trump gave away the game on his plans for weaponizing the DOJ, stating, "When this election is over...I would have every right to go after them." Democracy is teetering on a knife's edge, and we must remember what is at stake this November.

GOP banker drops dark money bomb in must-win Senate race
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: Eric Hovde, McConnell’s hand-picked candidate for Wisconsin’s US Senate seat, spent over $5 MILLION on TV and digital ads so far in his transparent attempt to try and buy himself trailblazing Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin’s seat. Hovde used that money to unleash a torrent of GOP lies against Baldwin and President Biden, making it clear that he will rubber-stamp the GOP’s draconian anti-abortion agenda and roll back all the accomplishments that Senator Baldwin and President Biden have delivered for the American people. Polling shows that 15% of voters are still undecided — and in the most fiercely contested partisan battleground in the country, every single vote counts more than ever before. Will you chip in to fight the GOP’s lies, re-elect Tammy Baldwin and protect our Senate majority?
Justice Clarence Thomas finally reports trip to Bali paid for by GOP megadonor, five years after it happened
Radical, right-wing Supreme Court Justice and luxury vacation enthusiast Clarence Thomas finally formally disclosed a 2019 trip to Indonesia paid for by his GOP megadonor sugar daddy, Harlan Crow. The vacation was at the center of the controversy over Thomas' lavish, expense-free travel. The trip to Bali was the focus of the original report in ProPublica last year that triggered months of headlines about posh travel accepted by conservative justices. Though the news organization’s reporting raised awareness of the trip, Thomas did not formally disclose it on his previous reports until this week. How convenient. Thomas also reported a trip paid for by Crow to a private club in Monte Rio, California, also in 2019. The reports, which cover the 2023 calendar year, are also the first to land since the Supreme Court adopted a code of conduct for the first time in its history last fall. That code, which also came as a response to the travel scandals, was nominally embraced by all nine justices. But the document has prompted skepticism from ethics experts and some Democratic lawmakers because it includes no enforcement mechanism.

GOP Rep. Nancy Mace busted scamming taxpayers with inflated expenses
A new analysis of Representative Nancy Mace’s finances reveals that the South Carolina Republican overcharged Congress thousands of dollars to cover housing expenses on her $1.6 million Washington, DC, townhouse. Mace was accused of “secretly fleecing taxpayers” in an ethics complaint filed earlier this week, alleging she sought higher monthly lodging reimbursements than what was actually warranted per her expenses. A closer analysis of bills from her home — including Washington Gas, Pepco water, Xfinity internet, insurance, and taxes — indicates that Mace charged the government for more than $8,900 over what she was eligible for, according to Punchbowl News. Mace’s former staffers gladly dished the dirt on her, though, disclosing to The Washington Post that Mace repeatedly directed her team to file for reimbursements to the tune of $2,000 a month, despite being informed by people involved in her office finances that she could not justify claiming more than $1,726 a month. During some months of the year, she filed to be reimbursed upward of $3,000 — nearly double what her team had calculated.

Fired worker accuses Meta of anti-Palestinian discrimination
A Palestinian-American software engineer is suing Meta for wrongful termination and discrimination, claiming the tech giant fired him in retaliation for his pro-Palestinian speech and expression. In a lawsuit filed in California, Ferras Hamad accuses Meta of a "callus, chronic, and consistent anti-Palestinian bias" and claims he was "scrutinized, interrogated, and terminated because he was of Palestinian national origin and/or Muslim investigating a SEV." SEV is company jargon for "severe issue." The content in question was posted by Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photojournalist posting from the ground in Gaza. In response, the company said, "The employee was dismissed for violating Meta’s data access policies, which we make clear to employees will result in immediate termination." But Hamad insists Meta fired him specifically because they believed he personally knew Azaiza, a claim he denies.
Republicans try to block 4 million workers from getting overtime protections
On brand and right on cue, GOP lawmakers filed a resolution in Congress on Wednesday that would block the Labor Department from extending overtime protections to millions of salaried workers, a key workplace reform pursued by President Biden. They are nothing if not consistent in their utter contempt for the Americans who literally keep the country running every day.

Biden warns of threat to democracy at iconic Pointe du Hoc WWII site in Normandy
President Joe Biden on Friday urged Americans to honor the Army Rangers who turned the tide of World War II by scaling the steep cliffs of Pointe du Hoc in France by doing their part to preserve democracy against aggression from both abroad "and at home." "They fought to vanquish a hateful ideology in the ’30s and ’40s," Biden said at the iconic monument atop the windswept promontory overlooking the English Channel in Normandy. "Does anyone doubt they wouldn’t move heaven and earth to vanquish hateful ideologies of today? These Rangers put mission and country above themselves. Does anyone believe they would exact any less from every American today?" Biden never mentioned his coup-attempting predecessor by name in the 11-minute speech but has spent the last year warning that the now-convicted felon is promising to rule as an autocrat if he wins back the White House in November.

America, the beautiful?
What a wonderful world?
Hope...
