Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Gun violence continues to be a deadly, nationwide epidemic with stalled
action at the federal level due to the NRA’s grip on the GOP.

So far in 2024, there have been 199 mass shootings in 158 days, averaging
more than one per day this year.

As California’s Attorney General, Rob isn’t sitting around waiting for
Congress to solve this crisis — he’s following the data and doing
everything in his power to save lives and end gun violence in our state
and beyond. So far this year, he’s:

Secured a settlement with gun makers and retailers permanently barring
them from manufacturing and selling untraceable ghost guns in California.

Secured a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals in Doe v. Bonta, which
will allow the state of California to continue sharing data with qualified
gun violence researchers, empowering us to continue identifying sources of
and appropriate responses to gun violence.

Led the Department of Justice in our work to identify and recover
illegally possessed firearms from people who are no longer legally allowed
to have them, and announced the seizure of 1,443 illegally possessed
firearms, including 88 ghost guns, in 2023 through our first-in-the-nation
Armed and Prohibited Persons System (APPS).

Held multiple Office of Gun Violence Prevention roundtable discussions to
bring community organizations, local leaders, and state officials together
to find effective gun violence prevention measures and solutions.

Joined a nationwide coalition defending a federal law prohibiting the sale
of handguns and handgun ammunition to anyone under the age of 21, as well
as supporting Massachusetts’ and Connecticut’s assault weapon and
large-capacity magazine bans.

And that’s just in the first five months of this year! But there’s more
work to be done in the days ahead. As long as Rob is in office, he will
continue to lead the fight against this deadly epidemic and ensure our
kids can live long, healthy lives in safe communities.
