JOHN,
Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. As a Gun Sense Candidate, I will be wearing orange this weekend to bring awareness to the crisis of gun violence—a tragic reality for our society that takes more than 120 lives and wounds hundreds more every day in this country.
Many of the lives lost to gun violence each year are children. Since 2011, firearm deaths among children under 18 increased by around 87%. Firearm-related injuries are now the leading cause of death for young people under the age of 20.
This is an unacceptable loss of life. We are failing to keep our children safe from preventable and avoidable trauma. But I know that together we can do better.
I promise to honor those who have lost their lives to senseless gun violence by working towards common sense reforms.

Yours in Service,
Joe Pereles
