John,
Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, also called #WearOrange Day. This anniversary began in 2015, in memory of Hadiya Pendleton, who was tragically taken by gun violence less than two weeks after performing at President Obama’s second inauguration. On this day, we remember everyone who has been impacted by gun violence: all of those who have been taken, and the survivors whose lives have been forever changed.

The voices of survivors of gun violence are central to NCGV’s work. In May, we organized a Survivor Advocacy Day, where survivor advocates, and NCGV staff, met with lawmakers at the North Carolina General Assembly to share their story and advocate for solutions.

We also carried with us the powerful stories shared by our supporters about the impact of gun violence in communities around the state. These stories were delivered to our lawmakers at the General Assembly.
What you can do:
This #WearOrange Day, there is something you can do to support these incredible survivor advocates: email your lawmakers now, and ask them to include funding for the NC S.A.F.E. program* in the state budget. [[link removed]] Our state lawmakers are deciding right now what to fund, and they need to hear that their voters are demanding funding for this life-saving program.
This #WearOrange Day, we remember Hadiya and all whose lives have been taken by gun violence, those who survived but whose lives were forever changed, and those whose loved ones were taken by guns.
We at NCGV recommit to working to prevent more injuries and deaths in our state.
In solidarity,
Sara & Becky
