Temporary Lane Closures for DC PLUG Feeder 15166

(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises stakeholders to expect delays due to upcoming lane closures to install manholes and conduits for the DC Power Line Undergrounding (DC PLUG) initiative. Motorists can expect southbound lane closures in the 2900 to 3000 blocks of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue SE between Malcolm X Avenue SE and Labaum Street SE from May 28 – June 21, 2024. Northbound and southbound lane closures in the 2800 to 2900 blocks of 2nd Street SE between Newcomb Street SW and Malcolm X Avenue SE will take place from May 28 – June 28, 2024, weather permitting.

These closures are required for the safe Installation of manholes and conduits to complete the DC PLUG initiative’s Feeder 15166 project which consists of undergrounding powerlines for a more resilient DC. The lane closures are estimated to last four weeks.

For more information about the DC PLUG Initiative and to stay up to date on traffic-related impacts and construction progress, please visit www.DCPLUGinfo.com, call the DC PLUG team at 1-844-758-4146, or email DC PLUG at [email protected].

Councilmember Trayon White joined the Earth Conservation Corps at the Barnaby Run tributary. This waterway has been a trash magnet hotspot and has suffered from a lack of understanding of its vital role in the Ward 8 watershed and of its even larger role in Oxon Cove.

The hope of this event was to  kick start the community movement to complement the long-planned restoration of Oxon Run under the leadership of DOEE. Over the past 16 months, community partners and volunteers removed more than 2,500 pounds of trash from Barnaby Run and planted 50 native cottonwood trees and one acre of wild rice in Oxon Cove.

The restoration generated 392 volunteer hours to regenerate the vital urban wildlife habitat of Barnaby Run, Oxon Run and Oxon Cove.
Committee Updates

Thursday, May 30th

The Committee on Recreation, Libraries and Youth Affairs and the Community Engagement team joined a meeting and walkthrough about the renovation of Fort Greble Recreation Center.

The meeting consisted of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of General Services, Chiaramonte Construction Company, ANC 8D06 Commissioner Wendy Hamilton, residents of the Bellevue neighborhood and other constituents.  The meeting discussed the construction plans for the new Fort Greble Recreation Center, which includes a new building. Residents discussed wanting additional redevelopment of the basketball court and the parking lot. They also implored that DPR add signage on Martin Luther King Avenue to guide people to the somewhat hidden entrance to the center.

Engagement Last Week:
  • I recently attended a Kemetic yoga session at the Bellevue DC Public Library. This form of yoga focuses on connecting the mind, body, and spirit through gentle movements and breathwork. With the guidance of an instructor, I was able to improve my physical and mental well-being while also enjoying the serene atmosphere of the library and i highly recommend.
  • Our team participated in a meeting with stakeholders and community members to discuss the start of the renovation project for Fort Greble. The meeting focused on the plans and goals for the renovation, as well as addressing any concerns or suggestions from the community. We are excited to be a part of this project and look forward to working with everyone involved to revitalize this historic site.
