VIDEO OF THE DAY: Stunning news rocks Trump's Georgia trial
In a stunning — and downright awful — new decision by the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Fulton County prosecution of Donald Trump has essentially been frozen while the appeals court determines whether District Attorney Fani Willis can remain on the case, all but guaranteeing that the convicted felon won't go on trial for blatantly trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election until at least 2025. Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner go deep on the ramifications for our republic and the impact this decision will have on the upcoming general election.

Florida Republican and Trump VP hopeful expresses nostalgia for the Jim Crow era, when "the Black family was together"
GOP Rep. Byron Donalds, who is Black, has been forced to defend indefensible comments he made earlier this week, pining for the days during Jim Crow when Black families were apparently more unified, stuck together, and supposedly voted conservatively. "During Jim Crow the Black family was together," Donalds said out loud in a room full of people during a Black GOP outreach event in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Donalds went on to criticize decades-old policies from former Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Johnson for promoting a culture of dependence. "During Jim Crow, more Black people were — not just conservative, because Black people always have always been conservative-minded — but more Black people voted conservatively." Interesting hot take, Byron. It's almost as if discriminatory laws empowering white supremacy and forcing Black people to live in certain parts of town, attend different schools, use separate bathrooms, drink from separate water fountains, eat at separate restaurants, do business at different banks, cool off in different swimming holes, and generally live in government-sanctioned states of poverty might've had something to do with them banding together just to survive.
Take Action: Impeach Justice Alito for endorsing Trump's insurrection!

SCOTUS extremism hits terrifying new heights
Brennan Center for Justice: Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s insurrection flag scandal is the last straw. It is long past time we imposed term limits on the Supreme Court and put an end to the complete lack of accountability that these justices currently enjoy. The Brennan Center for Justice is spearheading the movement to finally put an end to the tyranny of the right-wing, anti-democracy extremists on the court — will you chip in to support their work?
Republicans kill bill to protect access to contraception
39 Senate Republicans gave modernity the middle finger and blocked legislation on Wednesday designed to protect women's access to contraception. Had enough? Remember in November.

Dozens reported killed in strike on Gaza school that Israel says was being used by Hamas
Israel hit a Gaza school on Thursday in a devastating airstrike that it said targeted and killed Hamas fighters inside, while a Hamas official said 40 people including women and children were killed as they sheltered in the UN site. The United States issued a joint statement with other countries on Thursday calling on Israel and Hamas to make whatever compromises were necessary to finalize a deal as the two sides gave contradictory accounts of the school attack. Ismail Al-Thawabta, the director of the Hamas-run government media office, rejected Israel's assertion that the UN school in Nuseirat, in central Gaza, had hidden a Hamas command post, while Israeli officials forcefully pushed back against the claim and accused Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters of deliberately using the UN facility as an operational base.
Trump's doc requests reveal VP short list
The convicted felon has requested financial documents and other information from eight potential VP picks, as he begins the process of selecting who will dutifully serve as chief bootlicker in his quest to retake the White House. That anyone in the Republican Party is even considering joining yet another Trump ticket is disqualifying in itself; nonetheless, the list of goons willing to sacrifice whatever's left of their long-abandoned moral code is remarkable. Notable absences from the current crop of surrogates include South Dakota Gov. and puppy killer Kristi Noem and ally-turned-nemesis-turned-ally Nikki Haley, who finally kissed the golden ring for a second time after months of trashing Trump on the primary campaign trail. May the worst man or woman win.

California sheriff and law & order man says "It's time we put a felon in the White House"
Riverside County Sheriff and proud "law and order" man Chad Bianco says he is sick and tired of legislators and elected officials not caring about the rule of law. That’s why he says he’s endorsing Donald Trump, who was 👏 convicted 👏 last 👏 week in New York on 34 counts of falsifying business records, in the November election. Citing no evidence, Bianco claimed California Gov. Gavin Newsom had slashed law enforcement budgets across the state and gave criminals preferential treatment. Fun fact — Riverside County Sheriff’s Department budget has increased more than $270 million since 2019, when Bianco was sworn in. But let's not let facts get in the way of a sophomoric, half-baked, nakedly political argument. Bianco is a big, strong, tough-on-crime guy — just look at that mustache! — and he knows what's ailing America and what we need to do to get back on track: "I think it’s time we put a felon in the White House."

Tennessee families file federal lawsuit after police arrest and strip-search middle-schoolers
Two families have filed a federal lawsuit against Republican Gov. Bill Lee and the Williamson County School District in Tennessee, claiming their middle school kids were arrested, strip-searched, placed in solitary confinement, forced to undergo evaluations, and placed on house arrest after officials misinterpreted a state statute and claimed that conversations between peers were "threats of mass violence." The lawsuit stems from two separate, unrelated incidents in August 2023 where a pair of students were accused of making threatening speech. However, according to the lawsuit, the speech used by the middle schoolers in the two separate incidents did not rise to the level of a threat of mass violence nor did it amount to actions "that a reasonable person would conclude would lead to serious bodily injury." According to the lawsuit, the 13- and 14-year-old child victims in the debacle have "suffered a severe and serious emotional injury" and were "unable to adequately cope with the mental stress" from the circumstances surrounding their cases. Hey, here's an idea — instead of concocting oppressive, unenforceable "zero tolerance" strategies that do little to combat mass school shootings and gun violence in schools, we could, you know, deal with the root problem and enact common sense gun safety reforms that put our children's right to not die above people's right to own boom sticks.
Israeli government using bot farms to target Black US lawmakers with propaganda
Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has unleashed a slew of bot users on social media websites to spread Israeli propaganda, often targeting Black US lawmakers’ posts, The New York Times reported Wednesday, citing documents and Israeli officials. The ministry paid $2 million to Stoic, a political advocacy firm, to launch the campaign, the Times reported. Stoic created fake news sites such as "UnFold Magazine" and "Non-Agenda," which were populated with rewritten articles from other publications that affirmed the Israeli narrative on the war in Gaza. FakeReporter, a site that reports bot accounts spreading propaganda, originally identified the influx of accounts spreading stories from these sites, among other fake sites promoting racist and fictitious stories, across X, Instagram, and Facebook in April. The campaign also targeted primarily Black and Democratic lawmakers with spam posts from fake accounts promoting Israeli propaganda.
Judge Aileen Cannon going to unheard of lengths to aid Trump in stolen classified documents case
Ah, wonderful! More right-wing, judicial chicanery designed to aid and enable the MAGA cult leader to escape accountability and weasel his felonious ass back into the Oval Office. America, so bigly beautiful!
House Republicans push devious plan to help Trump pardon himself
MAGA clowns in the House are pushing for a bill that would allow one very specific ex-president to lift ANY state case against him, and plop it right into a federal court order — a blatant response to Donald Trump’s felony conviction in New York. It should surprise no one that the person behind this latest scheme is none other than the MAGA cult leader himself. Last month, Rolling Stone reported that Trump held "several" meetings with Republican lawmakers and lawyers, asking them to pursue legislation that would permanently shield him from prosecution outside of a federal court. Folks, when we tell you Donnie's a wannabe autocrat hellbent on upending America democracy for his sole benefit, this is exactly what we mean.
