We'll be honest, when we wrote to you last week we thought it was ridiculous that Trump was attacking Gerry for defending the U.S. Postal Service.

It seemed like yet another petty moment from a president who’s had all too many -- and a good reminder for us of why we’re proud to have a serious progressive like Gerry fighting for us in Congress! We couldn’t imagine that Gerry’s bipartisan efforts to save the postal service wouldn’t gain the President’s support.

But, we were wrong: In the midst of the coronavirus crisis Trump is still refusing to give aid to the USPS, which desperately needs relief. Trump has even gone so far as to threaten to veto any legislation that includes grants or funding to support USPS.

Last weekend, Gerry went on MSNBC to share his concerns about the damage Trump is doing to this essential service.

Not only is the USPS an American institution, it provides essential services to American families every day -- connecting us to distant family and friends, delivering medication, paychecks and stimulus checks, and online packages, and even bringing us communications from the government. Today, our postal workers are risking their lives by ensuring these services continue during a pandemic. 

It’s time for Trump to stop picking fights and start putting the American people first: Will you join Gerry in demanding Trump to stop tearing down the USPS and get them the funding they need to weather this economic crisis?

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact families across our nation, Gerry has been busy fighting to protect working people, essential services, and valuable resources.

But what has the President been doing? Well, after blocking Gerry’s bipartisan efforts to protect essential postal services in the CARES Act, Trump spent yesterday’s press conference deflecting responsibility and making petty and personal attacks against Gerry.
